Life Story for James Joseph Scahill

James Joseph Scahill
James J. Scahill of Windham, NY passed away at the age of 72 on February 23, 2018. Born on October 24, 1945 in Middle Village, NY, he was the only son of Rebecca and James Scahill. Jay was the loving husband of Virginia E. Scahill (nee McHugh), proud father of Roland, Logan (Liz), Rebecca, Catherine, grandfather of Mack, and sister of Anne Scahill, DW.

Two of his proudest accomplishments were serving his country as a Corpsman in the US Navy during the Vietnam War, and serving New York City as a member of the NYPD, ending his 20-year career as Detective. Jay was the owner of The Frog House Restaurant and Weatherby’s at the Windham Country Club. It was the restaurant business that brought him to the mountaintop, but it was his love for the beauty of the mountains and the people of the community that made him stay and raise his girls here. He was an avid golfer and could be seen until recently enjoying his favorite sport with a little help from some friends. He was a great cook and loved having family and friends over to taste his newest recipe, and he shared his culinary talents as a volunteer grill man at the Adaptive Sports Foundation for many years. He will always be remembered by his distinct “radio voice”, his great sense of humor and always accurate weather forecasts.

Jay was a good friend, a good neighbor, and all around good guy. He will be missed by many.
