Life Story for John Dunleavy

John Dunleavy, known to all as Jack. Passed way on April 20th in his sleep. He was 76 years old. Jack was born on May 8th 1942. He was the eldest son of the late John Dunleavy and Lucy Wavrik. He grew up in the Yorkville section of Manhattan. After graduating from Brooklyn Tech High School he joined the Army and was based at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks, Alaska.

After being discharged from the Army he went to Seton Hall University on a basketball scholarship. He briefly worked at National Airlines after graduation before he became co-owner of the Attic Bar on Cooper Ave in Glendale. He sold the bar and then joined UPS were he was a fixture of Park Slope, Brooklyn. At UPS we was the shop steward of the Local 804 of the Teamsters. In 2003 he retired after 25 years of service. After his retirement he could be found doing weekend bartending around the neighborhood.

Jack is survived by his daughter Caryn Milliot (Sean), son Daniel and granddaughter Danica, his siblings Jeanette Shields, Rosemary Dunleavy-Maslow (Sy), Brian (Heidi) and Peter( Marion Reynolds) and Margaret Breyer (Jay). As well as his eight nieces and nephews. He is proceeded in death by his beloved wife Kathleen Sutemeyer and his youngest son Christopher.
