On March 24, 2022, Maria Cristina passed away at the age of 73 in Manhasset, New York.
Maria Cristina, who loved to be called Ita by her granddaughters, was born in Bogota, Colombia on February 10, 1949. She moved to Queens, New York in 1968 at age of 19 with her family. There she met and married her love, Hernando Nieto on August 22, 1971. She was a devoted mother to her son, Alejandro Nieto and daughter, Cristina Nieto-Arias and her grandchildren were the light of her life, Gabriela, Samantha, Alexis & Austin. Her greatest gift of all though was sharing her immense heart and caring with her siblings, nieces, nephews, and friends. She made people feel happy and warm inside. She will be sorely missed by so many.
