Mother and Me
Helen and I met my first day at Flushing Home Care Agency. I did'nt know a single person and after she looked me up and down and I passed initial muster we became fast friends.
Our lives and careers than moved from Flushing to Mt.Sinai and then her last job prior to retirement-Winthrop.
Our friendship was special. I called her "Mom" and she called me "Mary Jane". My family loved Helen and new what a great Mother and friend she was.
Helen's insights and guidance throughout my life have been invaluable. For years she encouraged me to go work at North Shorh LIJ with 'cousin Jerry'. Once again I took her advice and here I am.
What I will miss if our friendship, her guidance, the ability to make each other laugh despite the suffering that was happening. Luckily, I spent the day after Easter at her house and marveled at Helen's strenght and wisdom. She was in tremendous pain and yet could only talk about Brian and what he was about to go through. It was a great day and I walked away wondering is this my last day with Mom.
I will always remember and treasure our friendship and trust; the ability to say and do anything to each other with acceptance and without fear of judgment.
Rest peacefully my friend and know you are always in my heart!
